What does my painting depict? The subject matter of my painting is a rose | How did I create the different tones? I used diluted white acrylic paint to make a thin wash. I brushed this on the painting paper with the black gesso. This created a grey tone. To make lighter, grey tones, I added second and third layers of wash. | How did you compose your subject matter? It’s a centred composition and it’s filled with negative space | Is your subject matter symbolic or does it express an idea? There’s no really a particular idea about my work.
How did you paint the highlights? | Is the negative space important in your painting?
I layered my painting with a brighter white paint | Yes, the negative spaces made my composition being the centre of attraction |
Kia Ora Shawn,
ReplyDeleteYou have made good use of the dilution matrix to reflect and analyze your painting. The negative space is important in your painting, I agree. Next time, you might consider a thin wash in the negative space to indicate a leaf or two. This would break-up the black ground around the rose and suggest the rest of the stem or plant. Very good effort to re-paint this subject matter again.
