 What is a hazard ?

  • A hazard is a potential source of harm. Substances, events, or circumstances can constitute hazards when their nature would allow them, even just theoretically, to cause damage to health, life, property, or any other interest of value.


Give an example of a:

Hazard Sign

Mandatory sign 

Prohibitive sign


Identify its shape and colour: 

Hazard sign - Its background colour is yellow with a black outlines and it’s in a  triangle shape.

Mandatory sign  - It has a blue background and a white outline; circle in shape.

Prohibitive sign - Has a circle shape, White background with red outlines.


Describe what it is telling you to do:

Hazard sign - A warning sign is a type of sign which indicates a potential hazard, obstacle, or condition requiring special attention.

Mandatory sign - It indicates that you must wear a glove for protection.

Prohibited sign - The prohibited sign indicates “No Pedestrian Crossing”.


Explain what action you would take:

You might consider following the sign for your own protection, not following the sign might make yourself in danger.
