Canterbury Prezi

In Social studies, we did a massive project using prezi. I've learned alot of things throughout the project such as the history of Canterbury. The thing that I like about Christchurch is the designs of the buildings they were modern looking.

Antarctica - Field trip studies

On the 4th of September, the 10ESOL class went on a trip with Ms.Briggs, Mrs Handley and Mrs Flores to the Antarctic Centre, we went there by a taxi van.

The first thing we did, is to visit the workshop, and we then meet this woman who is Jane, she was our instructor throughout the day, she told us a lot of History and knowledge about Antarctica it was very interesting and overwhelming. After that, we were sent to the penguins and this lovely lady who was feeding the penguin was told us about this kind of penguins, this type of penguin is called " Little Blue penguin" this penguin is the smallest kind of its race. Moreover, We watched a 4d movie, it's like your inside the movie and you're the one who's filming it, it was such a good experience. At this time, my most favourite thing that happened on trip was to ride on a Hagglund, it was a bumpy ride and was enjoyable. Hagglund was designed to carry troops and equipment in Antarctica, and it is used now by the scientist that study in  Antarctica. Later, we had a 45 minutes break to answer our worksheets and have some snack. And finally, the most enjoyable part was to experience the weather of Antarctica in summer, there was this room that simulates the weather in Antarctica, we were there for 8 minutes and it felt like an hour. my body feels numb and limp when it goes night the only thing that makes Antarctica so cold is the wind.

To sum up, our trip to the Antarctic centre was fun and enjoyable, throughout the expedition we learned a new kind of different things, and all thanks to our teacher Ms. Briggs and to the teachers that come with us.

Rube Goldberg Machines

  • Post a photo of your group's section of the machine.
  • List the material used.
  • Explain the simple machines that make up the components of the Rube Goldberg Machines.
1. I don't have a photo of our work.
2. paper roll, Tape, styrofoam cup, lego.
3. Every Rube Goldberg machines uses levers, pulleys, rolling balls, ramps, tubes, and the domino effect to keep things moving.

Arts - Stencils

 10 Art 2 Reflection Matrix

Tohatoha-Share your learning with a written reflection and post to your student blog.

Use the matrix questions to guide your writing about your work. You are analysing the parts of your work and your responses to these parts

Subject Matter

Form

Composition / Space

Content /

Meaning

Your image

What is the subject matter of your stencil? A Mickey Mouse? Gumboots? Kowhaiwhai?

It’s a rose

Does your colour set a mood or structure the picture space?

I'm not really sure if it is.

What is the chief interest of your painting? The stencil shape? The negative space?

I personally think it’s the rough background.

Does your stencil express any values or ideas?

Honestly, it doesn’t, it’s just made up of gibberish as I am not good in arts

Is your stencil subject matter a symbol? A logo? A portrait? Something else?

It’s a rose with different colours

Are the colours related in bold contrasts or gradual transitions (blends)?

Yes, to show the individual more.

Stencils are quite flat. Have you used overlap to create space?

I used a sponge to tap it around.

Is the meaning of your stencil changed by the way you paint it?  repeating the stencil shape?

Have combined your stencil with

other imagery? For e.g., used it in a landscape?

No, it’s just basically made up of a rough background

Does your painting use a

variety of applications of paint? Have you used Impasto or flat painting? A wash, stippling or drybrush?

Tone and Colour contrast create

space. Do your colours react against each other? Move forward or backwards in space?

Yes, I used negative colours for each roses.

How does repeating a stencil symbol change its meaning? Does it have more emphasis or less?

Does your subject matter change? Is the painting more about the colour, form, texture, and space than the stencil subject matter?

It’s about the colour and the stencils.

What kind of texture does your painting have? Were you able to control this effect?

It has a rough texture.

Does the repeated placement of your stencil create any focal points or leading lines?

Yes, it does make the colour darker.

How does the colour used change the meaning of the stencil? For e.g.,if a Batman symbol is painted in pink colour?

I don’t really know the knowledge about this. I'm using whatever colour I want.

Children of Blood and Bone - Part 3

 Chapter 56 – Zélie

We zip through the crowd while celebrants thrust and shimmy by our sides. Though part of me wants to cry, I crane my neck to take in the crowd, craving their joy, their life.
The children of Orïsha dance like there’s no tomorrow, each step praising the gods. Their mouths glorify the rapture of liberation, their hearts sing the Yoruba songs of freedom. My ears dance at the words of my language, words I once thought I’d never hear outside my head. They seem to light up the air with their delight.
It’s like the whole world can breathe again.
This could be compared to a festival, a lot of people gather to celebrate a festival.

Chapter 59 – Zélie
“How will me coming back to Lagos solve any of that?” I ask. “As we speak, your father calls for my head!”
“My father’s scared.” Inan shakes his head. “He’s misguided, but his fear is justified. All the monarchy’s ever seen is the destruction maji can bring. They’ve never experienced anything like this.” He gestures to the camp, face alight with so much hope his smile practically glows in the darkness. “Zulaikha created this in one moon, and there are already more diviners in Lagos than anywhere else in Orïsha. Just imagine what we could accomplish with the resources of the monarchy behind us.”
not having seen the other side of the story

Chapter 66 – Inan
Father stands in his night robes, scanning a faded map. No sign of hatred. Not even a hint of disgust.
For him, carving MAGGOT into a girl’s back is just another day’s work.

In that instant it hits me: Zulaikha’s death. Zélie’s screams. They don’t mean a thing to him. Because they’re maji, they’re nothing.
Think about how the word ‘maggot’ is used. This is a slur. Do we have these in real life?
A message I take from this scene is that how bad king Seran is and how he can do this bad stuff to another human.

Technology And Change

In Social Studies, we were learning different eras and do a blog explaining the technology of the era advancement.

 ‘Ancient Egypt’

During the Ancient Period in history, there were some significant technological advancements. Some of the inventions during this time were papers, boots, mirrors, wigs and boats. These inventions are seen during this time are all still widely seen and used today.

A significant invention in Ancient Egypt is the invention of boots, there is very little evidence of the use of covered shoes in ancient Egypt. The few that have been found were woven from palm fibre and grass. Such shoes seem to have been prized possessions. They were invented about 1500 b.c.e. Only significant people who were allowed to wear boots such as the infantry, royals, wealthy people, etc. as they were measured in social status and possession. Slaves weren’t allowed to wear boots. Therefore the creation of boots was very important to Ancient Egyptians.

Another significant invention of Ancient Egypt is the invention of wig, The earliest Egyptian wigs (c. 2700 b.c.e.) was constructed of human hair, but cheaper substitutes such as palm leaf fibres and wool were more widely used. They denoted rank, social status, and religious piety and were used as protection against the sun while keeping the head free from vermin. In hence Wigs was one of the most needed inventions in Ancient Egypt.

This significant invention is one of the most important Ancient Egyptians made, Ancient Egyptian invented boats, they were made 3000 B.C.E... Egyptians were using boats made of wood, with sails to move them around. The Egyptians believed the Sun travelled across the sky in a boat made of papyrus reeds. The presence of boats made a huge impact on today’s time, such as they were used for fishing, to carry passengers, etc. Wherefore the invention of boats was absolutely revolutionary.

To sum up, There were many Significant technological advancements seen during the Ancient Egyptian era. Some of these discussed are papers, wigs, boots, pyramids, mirror and the most important, boats. These are all commonly seen today all around the world and are still very important.

Math

In Math, we learned to use substitution into an equation. To substitute the values of pronumerals into a formula means to replace the pronumerals with their corresponding values. When all but one pronumeral in the formula are replaced with numbers, the value of the remaining pronumeral can be evaluated. Order of operations must be observed at all times while evaluating.

and also we learned about how to use formulae. In formulae, letters are used to represent numbers. For example, the formula A lw = can be used to find the area of a rectangle. Here A is the area, l the length and w the width.
